Online Therapy Services in California

I provide individual therapy online for adults anywhere in California, specializing in reproductive mental health, encompassing pregnancy and postpartum, infertility, pregnancy loss, PMDD, and perimenopause, along with OCD, chronic pain and illness, grief, anxiety, depression and the life transitions that reshape who you are.

Every session is held by secure, HIPAA-compliant video. There’s no commute, no waiting room, no rearranging your whole day. You get consistent, specialized support from wherever you are, whether that’s Berkeley, Sacramento, Los Angeles, or a small town nowhere near a therapist with my training.

Who I Work With

My clients come from all kinds of circumstances, but there are common threads:

Life transitions: Changes that make today feel very different than life before.

Identity changes: Finding yourself in new roles, chosen or not, and figuring out how to integrate them into who you’ve always been.

Body challenges: Feeling uncomfortable in your body, or seeking ways to cope with physical changes and health challenges.

Feeling overwhelmed or out of control: The ways you’ve always coped with stress no longer work, or don’t work for these new challenges. You’re looking for new tools for managing emotions and calming your body.

Grief: Sometimes for a tangible loss, like a pregnancy; sometimes for intangible ones: dreams, capabilities, an identity, a future you’d planned on.

I provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and welcome clients of all backgrounds and faiths. That includes clients of Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim backgrounds, among others.

Rates & Insurance

Rates: $180 for a 53-minute session (private pay). I provide a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs, as required under the No Surprises Act.

In-network insurance: NorCal Kaiser, Cigna, Aetna, Meritain, and Nippon.

  • NorCal Kaiser: through the Allminds platform. You’ll need to obtain authorization for individual therapy and a referral to Allminds from Kaiser before we begin; appointments and billing then run through Allminds. Call the number on your Kaiser card to request the referral, and if you’re unsure how, ask me during your consultation and I’ll walk you through it.
  • Cigna, Aetna, Meritain, and Nippon: billing through the Alma platform, with appointments on my personal therapy portal (My Best Practice). PPO insurance does not usually require advance authorization, and we can check your benefits and eligibility through Alma before starting treatment.

Out-of-network: Superbills available for you to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

Checking your coverage: Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Coverage Parity laws require most health plans to apply similar rules to mental health benefits as they do to medical/surgical benefits. It’s worth asking your insurance provider:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
  • What is my deductible, and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per year does my plan cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Cancellation policy: I hold your session time just for you. If you miss a scheduled appointment without notifying me at least 24 hours in advance, a $100 late-cancellation fee applies (insurance does not cover this fee).

What to Expect: Getting Started Is Simple

Step 1: Free 15-minute consultation. We talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’re looking for. You can ask me anything. There’s no pressure, no commitment. The goal is simply to see whether we’re the right client/therapist fit, and if we’re not, I’ll do my best to point you toward someone who is.

Step 2: Intake session. Our first full session is about your story: what’s happening now, the history that shaped it, and what you want to be different. You’ll complete intake forms online before we meet, so our time together goes to you, not paperwork.

Step 3: Ongoing work. From here we collaboratively create your personalized treatment plan and discuss how it can best work into your day-to-day life. Sessions are 53 minutes, typically weekly to start. Therapy with me is collaborative; you are the expert on your life; I bring the map and the tools.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

For individual therapy, yes. A substantial body of research finds teletherapy outcomes comparable to in-person care, and for some of what I treat, online has real advantages. ERP exposures for OCD can happen in the actual environments where your symptoms live. New parents can attend with a sleeping baby in the next room. Clients with chronic pain or illness don’t have to spend precious energy on a commute. If you’re on the fence, the free consultation is a no-risk way to see how video sessions feel.

Ready to begin?

You’ve read this far, which usually means something in your life is asking for attention. You don’t have to have the right words for it yet. That’s what our work is for.
